Pitcher Timings

A separate charting operation where we capture four specific timings to help complete the statcast puzzle with regard to pitcher timings.

We developed an application that allows us to log the precise time that a pitcher:

  1. Came to a complete stop (set position)
  2. Made his first movement out of that set position,
  3. Released the baseball and
  4. The pitch crossed home plate or made contact with the bat.

This data has value as a supplement to the Statcast data because it helps measure baserunner performance, and study the variability of pitcher set times (i.e. whether they vary their timings or not, and by how much), etc.  Here’s a video that shows the process.
