Each of the 4 remaining teams in the MLB postseason acquired a big-named starting pitcher this season.  Three of them have performed amazingly.  One has not…

Justin Verlander threw a gem in his second playoff start (third appearance) for the Houston Astros. Jose Quintana (Cubs) and Yu Darvish (Dodgers) have each turned in excellent starts for their new clubs. That trio has combined for a 1.85 ERA so far in the playoffs with a 26.6 percent strikeout rate and a 7 percent walk rate. The one mid-season acquisition that has yet to pay postseason dividends is Sonny Gray.  His only outing was a rough one against Cleveland in the ALDS when he surrendered 3 ER on 3 hits and 4 walks over just 3.1 IP.

Sonny Gray will get a second chance tonight as he and the Yankees try to even the series at two games apiece.
