Can I use PalmScout at practice or just games?

One of the most valuable elements of PalmScout is the ability to chart practice sessions as well as games. Coaches use PalmScout to chart bullpens, batting practice, intrasquads, and real games. The benefit of charting your own team is that you will gain a better insight to each player's strengths and weaknesses. Coach your players better than ever before by showing them their reports. Use the Pitcher Command Report and Quality Locations Report during bullpens to show the quality of the pitches thrown. Use the Hitter Ranking Reports and Hitter Location Reports after batting practice sessions. Use any of the reports in your package after intrasquads.

Where is the best place to chart from?

For the most accurate results, it is best to chart from either behind home plate, or behind the pitcher (center field angle). PalmScout's pitch-screen offers both views for the charter. Click here for an example. Some coaches find it useful to film the game from either angle, and chart the game from the video.

Will I still need to keep paper charts on the bench?

Using PalmScout means that most of your bench charts will no longer be necessary. Not only will it consolidate the information you get from your paper charts, but you will not have to caluculate or tabulate anything when the game is over. PalmScout saves valuable time so you can analyze, rather than summarize.
