LEFTIES MAY WANT THE DAY OFF

Today’s light Thursday schedule includes five left-handed starting pitchers and a few righties that also perform “remarkably” well against lefties.  Here are a few interesting notes that Remarkable served up for today….

Over the last 30 days, Gio Gonzalez has allowed an OPS to left-handed batters that is 159 points lower than the next best pitcher!

Left-handed batters are hitting .191 against Madison Bumgarner (43-for-225) since the start of 2016 (Rank: 3rd of 107 qualified SPs in MLB; League Avg: .261)

Left-handed hitters have a Well-Hit Avg of .088 (18/205) against CC Sabathia since the start of 2016 (Rank: 3rd of 107 qualified SPs in MLB; League Avg: .161).

Marco Estrada has allowed a BABIP of .192 vs left-handed batters over the last 30 days (Rank: 5th of 99 qualified SPs in MLB; League Avg: .303)

As a starter, Kyle Hendricks has recorded 65 of his 118 strikeouts (55.1%) with his changeup vs left-handed batters since the start of 2016 (Rank: 1st of 40 qualified SPs in MLBLeague Avg: 25.7%).  Estrada ranks second.

Zack Greinke has induced opposing left-handed batters to ground into 10 double plays in 48 opportunities (20.8%) this season (Rank: 3rd of 108 qualified SPs in MLB; League Avg: 9.9%).

And because everyone loves a good Bartolo Colon stat…..As a starter, Big Sexy has recorded 84 of his 94 strikeouts (89.4%) with his fastball vs left-handed batters since the start of 2016 (Rank: 1st of 105 qualified SPs in MLB; League Avg: 43.9%).

 

Streaks

Starting pitchers have lasted less than 6 innings against the Cubs in each of the last 6 games (longest active streak).

Joe Panik has not struck out in his last 45 PA’s against a RHP dating back to August 1st (longest active streak).  He’s facing righty Michael Wacha today.

The Twins have scored six or more runs in each of their last 5 games (longest active streak).

Corey Seager has no extra-base hits in his last 49 at-bats (Jarrod Dyson – on the DL – has the longest active streak at 88).
